Corporate Christmas Party Venues in Whitley Bay

Most towns this size can offer a function room and a buffet. Whitley Bay can offer a Grade II listed seafront pleasure dome that runs proper shared party nights, an ice rink with a 150-capacity events suite above it, a 638-seat theatre that will sell you a box, and a bar strip close enough to all of it that the second half of the evening organises itself.

That last point matters more than the brochures admit. A do with somewhere to move on to at half eleven is a different night from one that ends when the lights come up.

Spanish City: the shared party night

Spanish City on the seafront is the obvious first call, and for a lot of teams it is the only call needed.

Its Christmas party nights run on Fridays and Saturdays from 4 December to 19 December 2026, 7pm to 12.30am, at £42 per person plus a £1 booking fee. That covers a three-course meal and a resident DJ. The published menu offers roast parsnip soup or prawn cocktail to start, butter-roasted turkey breast or braised beef as a main, and lemon white chocolate tart or Christmas pudding to finish, with vegetarian and vegan versions on request. Nights are 18+ and held in the St Mary's Lighthouse Suite.

Two things a buyer needs to know. Parties of eight or fewer share tables with other groups, and larger parties may be split across several tables, so a team of ten is not guaranteed to sit as one. And the deposit terms are front-loaded: £10 a head to hold the booking, with the balance, menu choices and dietary requirements all due by 1 October. Payments are non-refundable and non-transferable, which makes a headcount you cannot yet confirm an expensive guess.

For exclusive use, the venue quotes anything from 2 to 1,000 guests across its spaces, with the function suite seating up to 140 under panoramic sea views. 1910 Steak & Seafood is the formal end of the building and Trenchers the relaxed one, and Trenchers runs festive dining from 18 November to 24 December. Best for: Best for a team of eight to forty that wants the whole night organised by someone else.

Whitley Bay Ice Rink: the Events Suite

The refurbished suite above Whitley Bay Ice Rink on Hillheads Road is the town's most underrated function room.

It holds up to 150, has its own entrance separate from the rink, and looks out over the sea and the cricket ground. Corporate hire packages start from £50 and include a flexible room layout, a dedicated event manager, hot and cold drinks with alcohol options, a lunch menu, WiFi, projection and a flipchart. Catering starts from around £6 a head with table linen and chair covers, and room hire is waived once a minimum bar spend is reached.

The detail that sells it: the package includes on-ice team building downstairs. Put the team on the ice at five, feed them at seven. There is free parking on site and both Whitley Bay and Monkseaton Metro stations are about ten minutes' walk.

Best for: Best for a party of 60 to 150, and the only venue in town that can put your whole team on ice first.

Whitley Bay Playhouse: entertaining, not dining

Whitley Bay Playhouse on Marine Avenue is a different proposition. The 638-seat auditorium runs tribute concerts, comedy and family shows right through December, and the venue's Suite Experience puts up to ten guests in the executive suite with a welcome drink, a dedicated host, a meat and cheese board on arrival and a reserved sea-view corner before the show. Book ten seats and the suite is exclusive.

The building also hires out for private functions, parties and conferences with exhibition space, and North Tyneside not-for-profits get 50 per cent off standard commercial rates (30 per cent for groups from outside the region), which is worth knowing if your Christmas do is a charity's rather than a company's.

Best for: Best for client entertaining or a small senior team, where a show beats a sit-down dinner.

Whitley Bay Rockcliff RFC: the value option

Whitley Bay Rockcliff RFC has been at Hillheads off Lovaine Avenue since the Victorians, and its clubhouse works hard as a function venue. Capacity varies with the layout, there is a full bar and catering on site plus a patio, and the club handles conferences and training days as readily as parties. Marquees and specialist room dressing can be arranged on request.

It will not impress anyone with sea views, but a club bar keeps the cost per head sensible, and you get the room to yourselves.

Best for: Best for a big headcount on a modest budget, with exclusive use built in.

For a festive team meal rather than a party

If the brief is dinner and home, the seafront and Park View do it better than a function suite. Hinnies on East Parade puts on a Christmas menu from 1 December and is the strongest name on the promenade. Davanti Whitley Lodge takes parties of eleven or more by phone on 0191 252 8059. For a younger team, Little Lobo and Elder & Wolf both handle groups without the formality.

Where the night moves on to

This is Whitley Bay's real advantage over an out-of-town hotel. From Spanish City Plaza, The Split Chimp is on the doorstep and The Boardwalk at Watts Slope does live music. Walk inland and Park View gives you The Dog & Rabbit brewpub and District Bottle Shop for wine. For anyone travelling in, Premier Inn Whitley Bay is on Spanish City Plaza itself.

What to nail down before you pay

Ask whether the night is shared or exclusive, and if shared, whether your group is guaranteed one table. Check the deposit and balance deadlines, because Spanish City's October balance date arrives long before most firms finalise a headcount. Confirm any minimum bar spend, the carriage time, and whether the function room has its own entrance. And check the last Metro on your chosen night if you are selling the do on the basis that nobody needs a taxi.
