About Whitley Bay Ice Rink

Whitley Bay Ice Rink on Hillheads Road has been part of the town since 1955 and is one of only two permanent public ice rinks in the North East. It holds around 3,200 spectators, hosts the Whitley Warriors ice hockey team and the all-female Whitley Bay Beacons, and runs public skating sessions, disco nights, junior development squads and learn-to-skate courses through the week. Before Newcastle Arena opened in 1995 the building doubled as the region's biggest concert venue, which is part of why it looms so large in local memory.

The upstairs space that housed a ten-pin bowling alley from the 1960s until 2007 is now a refurbished Events Suite and conference facility, entered separately from the rink and holding up to 150 people, with views over the sea and the neighbouring cricket ground. Celebration and corporate hire packages both start from £50, catering starts from around £6 a head including table linen and chair covers, and room hire is waived once a minimum bar spend is reached. The corporate package covers a flexible room layout, a dedicated event manager, hot and cold drinks with an alcohol option, a lunch menu, WiFi, projection and flipchart, and on-ice team-building sessions downstairs. There is free parking on site, and both Whitley Bay and Monkseaton Metro stations are around ten minutes' walk away.
