About This Event

A free guided walk around St Mary's Island nature reserve led by local birder Matthew Harrison. July is a wonderful time for coastal birdwatching — the tern colonies are busy feeding chicks, Eider ducks bob on the waves with ducklings, and Rock Pipits sing from the rocky shoreline. The walk covers the island's varied habitats: rock pools, grassland, and the seabird ledges visible from the causeway. Suitable for beginners and enthusiasts alike — Matthew provides expert identification tips throughout. Bring binoculars if you have them, plus weather-appropriate clothing for the exposed coastal location. Meet at the front of St Mary's Island Car Park (South). Accessible via the 308/309 bus from Newcastle Haymarket.
