About Whitley Bay FC
Whitley Bay FC, known as the Seahorses or simply the Bay, are the town's senior football club and one of the most successful non-league sides in the country. Founded in 1897 as Whitley & Monkseaton and taking their present name in 1958, they play their home matches in the white stripes at Hillheads Park on Rink Way, a short walk from the town centre and the Metro. For the 2026-27 season they compete in the Northern League Division One, near the top of the Northern League pyramid, in a division packed with local rivals.
The club's proudest chapter is its record in the FA Vase, the national cup for clubs at the lower levels of the non-league pyramid. Whitley Bay lifted the trophy at Villa Park in 2002 and then completed a remarkable hat-trick of Wembley wins in 2009, 2010 and 2011, beating Glossop North End, Wroxham and Coalville Town in successive finals to become the competition's most decorated club. A Saturday afternoon at Hillheads is affordable, welcoming and a genuine slice of North East football history.
