Marden Quarry Park
A local nature reserve and park with mature woodland, limestone grassland and a wildfowl lake.
About Marden Quarry Park
Marden Quarry Park is a local nature reserve about ten minutes' walk from Whitley Bay town centre, managed by North Tyneside Council. A former quarry, it features a striking landscape of mature woodland and limestone grassland, including the only significant magnesium limestone exposure north of the River Tyne, centred on a large wildfowl lake. The reserve supports breeding mute swans, mallards, moorhens, coots and tufted ducks, along with seasonal migratory birds. Facilities include walking trails and a park warden service. Wading, swimming, diving and ice-walking are prohibited, and a permit is required for angling. The park marked its 40th anniversary in November 2017.
