Yoga in Whitley Bay

Heated pods, community studios, and seafront sessions — the best yoga classes in Whitley Bay.

Whitleybay.live·

Whitley Bay has a surprisingly strong yoga scene for a small coastal town. There are dedicated studios, community-based classes, independent teachers, and even beach yoga in the summer months. Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced practitioner, here is what is available.

Hotpod Yoga

Hotpod Yoga is based on the first floor at 5 Earsdon Road, Monkseaton (NE25 9SX). Classes take place inside signature inflatable pods heated to 37 degrees, with soft lighting, calming scents, and curated playlists. The warmth helps muscles relax and makes stretching easier, which can be particularly appealing if you find traditional yoga studios a bit chilly.

Hotpod offers a range of classes including their standard Flow sessions, suitable for all levels. Arrive around 10 to 15 minutes before your class, as doors are locked once the session starts. The studio has showers and changing facilities, and there is a large outdoor car park on Cauldwell Avenue. West Monkseaton Metro is just a few minutes' walk away.

Best for: Hotpod Yoga classes take place in heated pods at 37 degrees. The studio is in Monkseaton, a short walk from West Monkseaton Metro. Book online at hotpodyoga.com.

Shore Yoga

Shore Yoga is a family-owned studio based in Monkseaton, with additional classes in Cullercoats and on the beaches around Tynemouth. They offer a wide range of styles including Vinyasa, Yin, Hatha, Restorative, Animal Flow, and Breathwork. Daily studio and outdoor sessions run throughout the week, and they also host workshops and retreats.

The studio has full facilities including showers and changing rooms. You can view the timetable and book classes online at shore.yoga/timetable.

Best for: Shore Yoga offers daily classes across multiple styles, plus beach yoga and retreats. Book at shore.yoga.

The Yoga Station

The Yoga Station is a not-for-profit community yoga studio housed in the heritage-listed Whitley Bay Metro station. It is run as part of the Station Master's Centre and hosts a variety of classes from different teachers throughout the week.

Classes include Hatha Yoga, Pregnancy Yoga, Mum and Baby Yoga, and Pregnancy Pilates. Drop-in sessions cost around 8 to 10 pounds, depending on the teacher. The studio has a lovely community atmosphere and is right in the centre of town, making it one of the most accessible venues in Whitley Bay.

Sarah McLusky Yoga

Sarah McLusky Yoga offers relaxed and accessible hatha yoga classes at several venues including The Yoga Station in Whitley Bay, Linskill Centre in North Shields, and Cullercoats Beach during the summer. Sarah is registered with Yoga Alliance Professionals and completed her 200-hour training with Newcastle Yoga School.

Her classes are designed to be welcoming to all abilities. As she puts it, as long as you are still breathing, you are doing it right. Sessions focus on how yoga makes you feel rather than how it looks. Drop-in classes at The Yoga Station cost around 10 pounds.

Best for: Sarah McLusky teaches hatha yoga at The Yoga Station and Cullercoats Beach. All abilities welcome. Drop-in around 10 pounds.

Unbound Yoga

Unbound Yoga offers mixed-level, slower flow yoga classes in and around Whitley Bay, covering Hatha, Vinyasa, and Restorative styles. Private sessions are also available for those who want a more personalised practice, with in-person appointments available from North Shields to Monkseaton and online sessions for those further afield.

Finding the Right Style

If you are new to yoga, it helps to understand the main styles on offer locally:

  • Hatha -- holding postures with controlled breathing. The most accessible starting point for beginners.
  • Vinyasa / Flow -- linking postures in a dynamic sequence. More physically demanding.
  • Yin -- slow, meditative holds using props. Good for flexibility and recovery.
  • Restorative -- deeply relaxing, supported postures held for several minutes.
  • Hot yoga -- practised in a heated environment (Hotpod at 37 degrees). Enhances flexibility and detoxification.

Most teachers in the Whitley Bay area welcome complete beginners and will offer modifications throughout the class.
