At least four Whitley Bay pubs run regular quiz nights. Here's which night, which pub, and what to expect.

Whitley Bay has a surprisingly strong pub quiz scene, with at least four venues running regular quiz nights across the week. Whether you prefer a seafront Wetherspoon or a village pub in Monkseaton, there is a quiz for you.

Wednesday — The Astley Arms

The Astley Arms in Seaton Sluice runs a quiz every Wednesday night. Just a short drive or bus ride north of Whitley Bay, this traditional pub on the coast has a loyal following for its midweek quiz. A good option if you want to combine a quiz with an evening walk along the coast.

Thursday — The Kittiwake

The Kittiwake on Claremont Crescent runs its quiz every Thursday at 8:30pm. A family-friendly pub on the Whitley Lodge estate, the Kittiwake offers prizes and bar nibbles for the winning team. The quiz returned in September and has been running weekly since. Entry is free.

Thursday — The Hunting Lodge

The Hunting Lodge in Monkseaton also runs a quiz on Thursday evenings. This is a SpeedQuizzing format — teams use their smartphones to answer, making it faster-paced than a traditional paper quiz. The Hunting Lodge is a large pub with plenty of space, so you will not struggle to find a seat.

Sunday — Monkseaton Arms

The Monkseaton Arms on Front Street in Monkseaton hosts its quiz every Sunday from 6:30 to 8:30pm. The quiz is run by Whos The Daddy and uses a smartphone-based SpeedQuizzing format. The Monkseaton Arms is one of the best-loved pubs in the area, with great food and a welcoming atmosphere.

Tips

Arrive early. The Kittiwake and Monkseaton Arms both fill up on quiz nights. Get there at least 15 minutes before the start.

Check before you go. Quiz nights can be cancelled for bank holidays or private events. A quick check of the pub's social media on the day saves a wasted trip.

Team size. Most quizzes work best with 4-6 people. The SpeedQuizzing formats at the Hunting Lodge and Monkseaton Arms are particularly well suited to smaller teams.
