Greek on the Beach Opens on South Parade in Whitley Bay

South Parade has a new place to eat. Greek on the Beach, a Greek restaurant and bar at 56-58 South Parade, opened on Monday 26 October, bringing a sit-down meze menu to a street better known for its bars and late nights.

The opening fills a building that has seen a lot of change. It was home to the Hairy Lemon for many years, and was most recently Ghost, a bar and club that opened in June and closed within a few months. Signs for the Greek restaurant went up in September, as reported by Brit Brief.

Who is behind it

The restaurant is run by the owners of the former Petros restaurant at Winlaton Mill in Gateshead, according to both Brit Brief and the Luxe Bible openings round-up. The opening date was confirmed in HighLife North's list of new North East openings.

What is on the menu

The restaurant's website lists a broad Greek menu:

• Meze and starters: tzatziki, saganaki, halloumi, calamari, dolmades and feta chips
• Wraps and pitta: gyros and souvlaki, plus a vegetarian pitta
• Mains: moussaka, lamb kleftiko, paidakia lamb chops, beef stifado and a mixed grill for two
• Also: pizzas with gluten-free bases, Greek desserts such as baklava, and a bar serving Greek spirits, cocktails and beers

Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options are marked, and the restaurant asks diners with allergies to speak to staff, as some dishes contain nuts or dairy.
