Work Starts to Clear the Old Whitley Bay Boat House to Protect the Beach

North Tyneside Council has begun removing the disused boat store by The Links, tidying up the shoreline and helping to keep the beach and the sea clear.

A familiar but long-disused structure on the Whitley Bay shoreline is being cleared away. North Tyneside Council has started work to remove the old Whitley Bay Boat House, which sits on the shore close to The Links, as part of looking after the beach and coastline that so many residents enjoy.

A tidier shoreline

The building is no longer used for boat storage and has stood empty for some time. Removing it will tidy up this stretch of the shore and help protect the beach environment, keeping loose material from finding its way into the sea. It is a straightforward piece of coastal housekeeping on one of Whitley Bay's best-loved open spaces.

Specialist demolition contractors are carrying out the work, which is expected to take in the region of four to five weeks depending on conditions on the coast.

Getting around during the work

While the work is under way there is limited access to the beach along the route past the Whitley Bay mini golf and the football club house. Walkers can still follow the coastal paths across The Links as usual, though the direct route down to the beach on that path is closed for now. The rest of the seafront, the promenade and the wider beach remain open to enjoy as normal.

Once the work is finished, this corner of the shore near The Links will be left clearer and better protected for the future.

Full details are on the North Tyneside Council website.
