Father's Day weekend brings a packed programme at the Playhouse, the biggest travelling fair in Europe on Town Moor, a free music festival in Blyth, and the Station Market just along the coast. Here is what is happening from Friday to Sunday.

Joe McElderry Live -- Whitley Bay Playhouse

Friday 20 June at the Whitley Bay Playhouse. South Shields' own X Factor winner returns to the coast with a full live show. McElderry has built a loyal following since his 2009 win, and the Playhouse is the perfect intimate venue to hear him up close. A strong way to start the weekend.

Adult Panto: Wizard of Oz -- Whitley Bay Playhouse

Friday 19 June at the Whitley Bay Playhouse. The grown-ups' panto is back with a twist on the classic tale. Expect slapstick, innuendo, and audience participation in a show that is definitely not for the little ones. A fun Friday night out.

Rookies Hockey Camp -- Whitley Bay Ice Rink

Saturday 20 June at the Whitley Bay Ice Rink. Young skaters can try their hand at ice hockey with coaching from experienced players. Equipment is provided, so beginners can turn up and give it a go. A great way to keep the kids busy on a Saturday morning.

Ballet by the Bay: Gala -- Whitley Bay Playhouse

Sunday 21 June at the Whitley Bay Playhouse. A Father's Day treat for dance lovers. Local ballet students and guest performers take to the Playhouse stage for a gala performance. A lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon with the family.

Kai Widdrington: Evolution -- Whitley Bay Playhouse

Monday 22 June at the Whitley Bay Playhouse. The Strictly Come Dancing professional brings his debut solo tour to the coast. Expect ballroom, Latin, and contemporary dance in a high-energy show. Book ahead -- these Strictly tours sell fast.

The Hoppings 2026 -- Town Moor, Newcastle

All weekend at Town Moor, Newcastle. Europe's largest travelling funfair returns to the Town Moor for its annual run. White-knuckle rides, traditional fairground attractions, food stalls, and all the atmosphere you remember. A North East summer institution.

Blyth Live 2026

Saturday 20 June at Blyth. A free outdoor music festival on the Blyth coast. Live bands, food vendors, and a festival atmosphere without the ticket price. Worth the short trip up the coast.

Tynemouth Station Market

Saturday and Sunday at Tynemouth Station. FREE entry. The region's favourite weekend market returns beneath the Victorian canopy. Handmade crafts, vintage fashion, ceramics, street food, and live music. Just a short walk along the coast from Whitley Bay.
